Power exchange
What is Dominance & Submission?
Also known as: D/s, power exchange
In depth
At the power-exchange core of many kinks sits D/s. It might stay in the bedroom or extend into a negotiated lifestyle. The dominant leads, the submissive follows, inside limits they both agree on in advance. Consent defines it, not coercion.
How it works
Partners negotiate the scope (scene-only or 24/7), the roles, rules, rituals and their hard and soft limits. At any moment a safe word overrides the dynamic instantly.
That is the definition. Doing it is a longer subject, and it has its own page: the full guide to dominance & submission covers practice, variations and where beginners get caught out.
Safety
Negotiate limits out loud and revisit them. Power exchange has to stay reversible: consent can be withdrawn at any point, whatever any 'contract' says.
Dominance & Submission FAQ
Is a submissive weak?
No. Submission is an active, chosen role; many submissives describe it as empowering because they set the limits.
What is a safe word?
An agreed word that immediately pauses or stops a scene. "Red" (stop) and "yellow" (slow down) are common.
